Respect in the Courtroom 

The courtroom is a place of order and structure. Always behave respectfully toward judges, court staff, attorneys, and others in the courtroom. Continue to show respect even after your case is concluded. Disruptions can result in contempt of court, leading to fines or jail time. 

Dressing for Court 

Dress appropriately to demonstrate respect for the court. Do not wear: 

  • Hats (unless for religious/medical reasons) 

  • Sunglasses 

  • Clothing with violent, sexual, profane, or drug-related imagery 

  • Revealing tops, ripped jeans, miniskirts, high-cut shorts, baggy pants below the waist, or muscle shirts 

Improper attire may result in you being asked to leave the Court and ultimately delay your hearing. 

Prohibited Items 

Not permitted in courthouses or courtrooms: 

  • Weapons 

  • Electronic recording devices (unless approved) 

Additional items banned in courtrooms: 

  • Food, drinks, gum, tobacco, e-cigarettes 

Cell Phones and Devices 

Turn off or silence mobile devices; using them may lead to removal or contempt charges. DO NOT USE A CELL PHONE TO TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS IN THE COURTROOM 

Attorney Information 

Attorneys should model proper conduct and dress, reflecting professionalism at all times.
